Shrub & Hedge Trimming in Buffalo, NY

Crisp hedges and well-shaped shrubs do as much for curb appeal as a fresh-cut lawn. We trim them properly, so they look sharp and grow back fuller.

Shrub & Hedge Trimming

Sharp Lines, Healthy Plants

There's a difference between shearing everything into a ball and actually trimming shrubs well. Good shrub work respects how each species grows: hedges cut slightly wider at the base so sunlight reaches the bottom growth, spring bloomers trimmed after they flower instead of before, and overgrown shrubs renewed gradually rather than scalped.

We handle the full range of foundation plantings and hedges common around Buffalo homes — boxwood, yew, arborvitae, privet, burning bush, lilac, and more. One-time cleanups for overgrown beds, or regular shaping visits that keep everything crisp through the season.

FAQ

Shrub & Hedge Trimming Questions

  • How often should hedges be trimmed?
    • Formal hedges look best with two or three trims a season in WNY — typically early summer after the spring flush, and again in late summer. Informal shrubs often need just one annual shaping.

  • When should I NOT trim my shrubs?
    • Skip spring bloomers like lilac and forsythia until right after they flower, or you'll cut off the buds. And avoid heavy trimming in late fall — fresh cuts and tender regrowth head into a Buffalo winter poorly.

  • My shrubs are way overgrown. Can they be saved?
    • Usually. Most hedge species respond well to renewal pruning done over two or three seasons, cutting back in stages so the plant keeps enough foliage to recover. Some conifers like arborvitae won't regrow from bare wood, so they need a lighter touch — we'll tell you what's realistic for yours.

  • Do you take away the clippings?
    • Always. Cleanup is part of the job: clippings raked out of the beds, debris hauled, and your walkways blown clean.
